The 12 Hours of Sebring was established in the year 1950. It used a former air force base. It had gained a reputation of being on of United States’ most important endurance races. For both Team Scandia and Andrew Evans the 1995 edition as well as the 1997 edition of this race was important.
Andrew Evans, who has always raced in Ferrari vehicles, signed up his team in the 1995 edition of the 12 Hours of Sebring. He knew at that time that no one driving a Ferrari vehicle had won this event from the year 1972. Evans however had faith in Ferrari’s superior craftsmanship and also knew that Team Scandia possessed the required skill to win this race. Team Scandia chose Eric van de Poele, Fermin Velez, and Evans to compete in this race. The Ferrari model they chose to drive was the Ferrari 333 SP. Before the race ended everyone knew that Team Scandia was going to win.
Andrew Evans team returned to participate in the 1997 edition of this grueling endurance race. This time Fermin Velez and Evans were joined by Stefan Johansson and Yannick Dalmas. They all were driving the Ferrari 333 SP. Team Scandia won this race, but by only 47 seconds. That was the time difference between Team Scandia and Dyson Racing Team who came second.
It does not how close it was, a victory is a victory. Team Scandia was leading in the first 148 laps of the 281 laps of this race. Both teams had to fight hard in this race. Dyson racing team member James Weave bumped into Dalmas. This resulted in a one of Ferrari’s tires being punctured. In order to make up for lost time Team Scandia was forced to give a nearly perfect performance. Dalmas and Weaver faced each other in the final lap. Even though Weaver raced aggressively, it was not enough to beat Dalmas and Team Scandia’s participating members.
